Hello! My name is Rebecca Mendel. I graduated from Meredith College in May, 2018 with a BA in history, along with my 9-12 teaching licensure in social studies. I grew up in Cary, NC and even went to THE Cary High School.
I student taught at Sanderson High School. During my student teaching internship, I taught 9th grade World History (mixed honors and academic) and 10th grade honors American History 1 for the AOF program. Within these classes I have experienced students in the ESL program, students with mental disabilities, students with physical disabilities, and students who have been identified as academically gifted. Through these experiences, I have learned how to differentiate instruction for various levels of abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.
My first year of teaching, I was hired by Panther Creek High School (GO CATS). During this time, I taught both World History and World Religions. I felt that the World Religions class did not live up to its full potential, and took it upon myself to create a new curriculum for the course. Creating a new curriculum during my first year of teaching challenged me in ways I could not even think possible. Without a PLT, I persevered through the year trying many new things to see what I liked and didn't like within the class I was trying to create. I became satisfied with a course that included units containing World Mythologies, Tribal Religions, Asian Culture, and Major 5 Religions. I also volunteered with the JV cheerleading team, and the Varsity Stunt team. My first year of teaching definitely challenged my multi tasking abilities, though the experiences and skills I have gained during this time have become irreplaceable to me.
After a while at PCHS, I transferred to Leesville Road High School (ROLL PRIDE). I will be teaching a variety of social studies classes in order to stay a well rounded teacher. It is my hope that my new students can feel how much I care about them through my teaching, and know how passionate I am about my job.
My favorite eras of history would consist of the Tudor Dynasty, and Ancient Greece. My thesis was on Greek Mythology and Greek society.
